The Chicago Cinema Society, in partnership with our wonderful friends at the Logan Theatre, will be hosting two special late night screenings, September 7th and 8th, of the highly anticipated third installment of the [REC] series: [REC]3: GENESIS! We are incredibly excited to be hosting this screening and will have ticket information posted when it becomes available! Check out the trailer and read some mini-reviews below. Hope to see you all there!
“Genesis is the Evil Dead 2 of the Rec franchise, and that can’t possibly be a bad thing. More of a rom-zom than a rom-zom-com, there is definite tongue in cheek but also a commitment to the ongoing back story of the first 2 films and some genuinely touching moments between the bride and groom. Plaza has made the sort of zombie film that harks back to zom-com classics such as the Evil Dead trilogy as well as Peter Jackson’s Braindead (1992) whilst retaining the signature Spanish flavour that made the franchise such a hit, it’s now down to his cohort Jaume Balaguero to conclude the quadrilogy, hopefully in epic fashion.” – HORROR MOVIES.CA
“The wedding guests just want to have fun in “[REC]3: Genesis,” the third entry in the Spanish horror series conceived by Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza. With Plaza now helming solo, the series ditches some of its trademark p.o.v. footage style and gloomy aesthetics for this prequel, set during a wild party that gets wilder when the zombie virus hits the dance floor. Instead of frightening, the resulting gore and cartoonish violence are mostly just gleefully over-the-top.” – VARIETY
